An epic offering, this is the finest St. Patrick’s Farthing we’ve ever seen, an amazing Choice Mint State example, with lustrous light chocolate brown surfaces, a bright golden splasher and excellent eye appeal.
This piece last traded publicly in Stack’s December 1983 offering of the august Roper collection, where it was described as “Uncrculated” in a catalog known for conservative grading and in which many pieces then called ‘VF’ now reside in high AU holders.
PCGS has graded just one other example of this issue as mint state through all these years, the L.S. Ruder coin which we handled some 10 years ago, but that one cannot hold a candle to this superb example.
Ex Stack’s December 1983 sale of the Roper Collection, as noted, lot #60.
This coin is from the CRO archives and is not currently available for sale.
