Middlesex D&H-209 variety, struck in White Metal.
A rare and infrequently seen Hangman variant, this with a man hanging from a tree symbolic of Thomas Paine’s The Rights of Man, stating I DIE FOR THIS DAMN’D BOOK, beneath the legend A TREE IS KNOWN BY ITS FRUIT.
The reverse states MAY THE TREE OF LIBERTY EXIST TO BEAR TOMMY’S LAST FRIEND.
The piece itself is a nice, original silvery gray Choice AU with a few scattered marks and spots as is typical for this temperamental composition.
