Breen-3, W-11445 variety, Large Porthole type as so indicated on the PCGS tag. Considered to be Rarity-6 (though with as much as half the extant population locked up in institutional collections).
As such, this is a very tough type to acquire in any grade. And while this piece is not perfect, evidencing 400 years of a rough life, and with a clip from the rim at 8 o’clock on the obverse, it is a more than representative PCGS graded, well pedigreed example with a relatively strong pig and clear legends on the obverse, a legible ship on the reverse, and considerably better eye appeal than most of these that we have seen.
Traces of silvering remain too, though most of it has worn off over time, leaving the surfaces a combination of golden brown and the distinctive greenish-gray color often seen on this type.
