Newman 4-E, W-1155 variety, considered to be Rarity-4+.
The nicest example of this circa 1828 restrike we’ve ever seen, with hard, smooth surfaces wholly unlike the pebbly or grainy surfaces typically found on even the highest graded survivors of this series.
Choice silvery gray color too, with a bold and even strike.
Note PCGS has graded one Plantation Token restrike higher as MS64, but it is a Newman 5-D variety with the pronounced die break in the obverse field. The present piece is the finest example at PCGS showing this design as the original makers intended.
