SWO-521Aa variety.

A massive and massively desirable issue, this 76mm, 1.01 pound medal of .900 fine gold was authorized by the Bicentennial of American Independence Act of February 15, 1972, engraved by Frank Gasparro, and is the largest gold medal ever struck by the U.S. mint. Wow. That’s impressive.

These were made to order and individually numbered with an issue price of $4,000 at a time when the melt value was approximately $1,500, resulting in a very limited run of 424 struck of which this piece was #374. And, unusual for these, it comes with its original box of issue:

The medal itself is the highest graded example we’ve ever had a chance to buy, with all but flawless P/L surfaces.

$67,500
