Authorized by the Bicentennial of American Independence Act of February 15, 1972 and engraved by Frank Gasparro, this gigantic 76mm, 1.01 pound medal of 90% gold is the largest gold medal ever (e-v-e-r) struck by the U.S. mint.

These were made to order and individually numbered with an issue price of $4,000 at a time when the melt value was approximately $1,519, resulting in a very limited run of 424 pieces of which this piece was among the very first struck at #6.

In subsequent years many of those were melted, making this as rare and desirable as it is large and impressive.

Heritage just sold the #13 medal struck in the same grade as this piece for $49,200 here. So this well pedigreed #6 piece should be worth our ask.

Ex the personal collection of numismatic luminary Q. David Bowers.

$59,500
