A significant coin in the Seated Quarter series with an original mintage of 48,000, with perhaps 150 to 200 pieces surviving today in all grades combined.
In XF and better grades, the 1867-S is considered to be Rarity-6; in MS, as here, it is an R-7. Only four other pieces have been certified by NGC and PCGS combined in Mint State.
The coins itself is pleasing for the grade, with a nice, untoned, satiny skin.
The central devices are fully struck, but the peripheral stars are not completely brought up – a trait seen on all known examples of this issue.
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
Ex the collection of Nathaniel Head, Governor of New Hampshire from 1879 to 1881.
