Demonstrating the incredible commitment we make to finding cool coins, we acquired this neatly pedigreed piece recently over breakfast in a Paneras, even though your author does not like Paneras, and thinks their coffee is extremely weak.

The coin, on the other hand, is f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c, a literal Benson Burner with wild shades of blue, sea green, rose and golden toning.

Ex Goldberg’s February 2002 sale of the Benson Collection, lot #500, where it realized $460 (at a time when a ‘regular’ one of these was worth about a hundred bucks); earlier purchased from James Macallister on February 20, 1945 for $3.00 (Editor’s Note: I tried to call Mr. Macallister to see if he had any more of these, but he did not pick up).

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
