Julian-MT-21 variety, Thin Planchet, Bronzed Copper.
This is the so-called ‘2nd Original’ dated Mar. 23 Over Feb. 22. The first striking, designated as Julian-MT-20, was intended commemorate the first steam coinage on February 22, 1836. Alas mechanical difficulties (as one might experience on American Airlines) delayed the production until Mar. 23, so the dies were re-engraved (with traces of the original date still visible).
The piece itself is an exceptional, proof-like über-gem with lovely golden brown color.
