Here’s something you don’t see everyday – a breathtaking error which occurred when a dime adhered to the upper die, thus striking a planchet with the normal reverse and an incuse eagle on the obverse.

This reverse was used on varieties of 1824, 1825 and 1827 dimes, but due to the light clash marks present that occurred on the 1827 JR-1, we have deemed this an 1827.

Likely carefully preserved as a curiosity since the day it was made, this piece is a light silvery gray with good luster and some subtle toning on the reverse.

Very cool overall, and a piece which would make a show-stopping addition to a high-end collection of early dimes.
