This is the first example of this date we’ve offered since 2010, which is perhaps not too surprising, since we’re super-picky about our early gold, and this 1811 issue comes up with less frequency than the more common 1807 and 1810 dates in this series in any grade.
But especially so in the superb, original condition seen here. Indeed, this is a fantastic example with ideal golden orange color that is (not surprisingly, in our experience) housed in an old slab confirming that it managed to survive unmolested through the era of rampant coin doctoring that has afflicted so many pieces of early gold.
