B-5, BB-252 variety, Small 3 type, considered to be Rarity-3.
This is an original, suitably crusty, ooooold toned AU which, in this author’s view, looks exactly like a 220+ year old silver coin should.
The CAC Price Guide for this issue is $12,500, but it is notable that there has not been any example in AU53 CAC sold at auction in, well, ever. Further, the last AU50 CAC coin sold waaaaay back in 2011(!). Further, the CAC price guide for AU55 is $18,500, but the last actual AU55 CAC at auction brought $28,800 in January 2024, and the one before that brought $22,325 in 2019. Hmmm.
So we think it’s safe to say the guides are a bit out of date on this issue.
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
