1799 $5 PCGS XF-45. This is the scarcer “Large Stars” type. Some prooflike flash remains in the protected parts of the design. Pre-1800 $5’s are always hotly desired. There are some circulation marks in the fields preventing this coin from earning an Almost Uncirculated designation from PCGS. As an added bonus, this is the Breen 4-H die variety, which is considered High Rarity-6 (i.e. about 13-18 known in all grades! ). Harry Bass, with unlimited funds and 20+ years of searching, had only a hairlined AU in his primary collection, whuch is now on display at the American Numismatic Association museum.
