Breen-6834, BD-2, identified by researcher and all-around good guy John Dannreuther as the “long thin neck” variety. Considered to be Rarity-4+, with an estimated surviving population of 80 to 100 specimens.
And this must be among the nicest and most original survivors of this type, with lovely golden orange color, pretty coppery rose toning, about 25% of the original cartwheel luster remaining on the obverse and as much as 40% on the reverse.
In all, a rare piece in lovely condition and a coin that would be very, very (very) expensive to improve upon.
Ex Spink-Smythe’s May 2011 sale of the Magnolia Collection, Lot #2.
