Breen 1074 variety, one of just a dozen or so known in this metal.

Described by Sylvester Crosby in ‘The Early Coins of America’ as ‘Unsurpassed in beauty and design by any piece of this period’ and held in similar regard today. The Myddelton Token has always been among the most popular of the colonial issues.

Rich chocolate brown with some mint red lingering in the legends and some attractive underlying tone as seen in our photos.

This piece is not the technical equal of the gem example seen in our archives, with some hairlines and surface marks primarily on the central obverse, and a single medium-sized nick in the reverse field. But the overall look is very pleasing and the piece is wholly representative for this challenging type.

Beautiful, very rare and relatively affordable – a nice combination of attributes.
