V-2, LM-2 variety, considered to be Rarity-6.

An interesting issue which proves that while no 1795-dated Draped Bust Half Dimes were ever struck by the US mint, a 1795-dated obverse die was actually produced. And then overstruck with a 6 to create this rare 1796/5 variant.

And this is a magnificent, sharply struck, unadjusted, prooflike, blue and golden toned Choice Unc. example of an issue that typically possesses none of these attributes. Indeed, to date PCGS shows a grand total of 26 examples of this issue on their pop report, of which just 2 coins have been verified by CAC – both MS64s.

The ‘other’ MS64, while attractively toned, displays heavy adjustment marks through the obverse portrait, making this the most desirable CACed example of this issue extant in our admittedly biased view. Superb provenance, too.
