Lovely, lustrous light chocolate brown with splashes of the 213 year-old mint red luster remaining in the lettering.

The strike is quite good for one of these, with a sharp shoulder epaulet and crisp eagle on the reverse.

This issue is sometimes seen with significant planchet rifts and flaws, as was the case with the otherwise attractive example sold by Stack’s in March, 2007.

This coin is as fresh and original as that piece, but on a far, far superior planchet.
