The first of our cool group of ‘Am I Not a Man’ series tokens, all bearing the familiar obverse motif with a slave in chains and the poignant AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER legend.

The reverse on this piece depicts a bust of Thomas Paine surrounded by the legend T. SPENCE A STATE PRISONER IN 1794.

Very well struck (which is not always the case on these), with about 20% of the original mint red remaining.
