Baker-18 variety.

Among the finest known of this type, this piece was described in Stack’s May, 1974 sale as follows:

One of the nicest Ship Halfpennies that it has ever been our privilege to offer.  An early state of the dies with no sign of clash marks and before the bulge at the waterline started.  Full Epaulet.  The die engraver’s finishing lines can still be seen in the reverse field.  Every detail of the ship and all other parts of the coin are sharp and clear.  A truly exceptional coin.  Uncirculated.  A glossy light chestnut brown.

And while a few Ship Halfpennies have found their way into mint state holders in recent years, most of those were considered AU ‘back in the day’.  But this one has always been recognized as as a superb mint state example of this type.

Ex Stack’s May 1974 sale of the Harry A. Orr Collection, lot #122, where it realized $2,700(!).
