J-10, P-11. Struck in copper, Reeded Edge. Considered to be Rarity-6+.

One of a series of exceedingly rare, highly collectible, classic 1792 patterns.

This example is a nice chocolate brown with some light toning in shades of pink and blue. There is some darker, natural encrustation in an around the letters and devices indicating originality and adding to the charm of the piece.

A few scattered marks and nicks are seen here and there, and there are some heavy rim bumps and bruises on both the obverse and reverse, but the major design elements are strong and the overall look is pleasing.

An interesting piece and, in our opinion, an exceptional value given its historical significance and great rarity.

Here we have a 1792 pattern of which less than 15 are believed to exist in all grades and yet it is priced at a level not altogether different than Half Dismes of the same year but which exist in the many hundreds of pieces.

Ex Stack’s sale of the Reed Hawn Collection, May, 1998, Lot #108.
