Last of our group, this is a lovely piece with choice color and surfaces that is, in our view, technically better than 55, though net graded for an old, thin scratch in the central reverse.

And frankly that would bother us if not for the fact that this issue is, for some unexplained reason, often plagued with scratches, always on the reverse, and sometimes lots of them.  Such as on the John Ford specimen, sold in Stack’s May 2004 Ford II sale, lot #325, a Choice VF piece with myriad reverse scratches that still realized $2,760 about a decade ago.

Making this pleasing, CAC-ified, Choice AU seem like a pretty good deal in comparison.
