Ryder-16 variety, considered to be Rarity-1.
This specimen was last offered publicly as part of the extensive Dr. Robert Hinkley Collection of Vermont coppers in Bowers’ 11/01 sale, where it was described as "A truly pleasing example of the variety." And we concur.
The strike on this one is fairly typical, but the original, golden brown color is really exceptional for the issue, as are the smooth, hard surfaces.
Ex Bowers November 2001 sale, as noted, lot #2361 @ $690.
