Ryder 6-N variety, considered to be low Rarity-3.

A choice MS63 example, never oiled or conserved, with pleasing, original olive brown color and actual mint red tracing the right side of the indian and remaining in the devices on both the obverse and reverse.

A bit of peripheral weakness and some very minor planchet roughness are noted for accuracy, but the overall quality and appeal of this piece far exceeds the average for one of these.

For those interested, we recommend a quick perusal of the entire run of Massachusetts Cents in the incomparable Ford collection. Even among the best pieces there, nearly every single coin was plagued with some combination of spots, planchets rifts, incompleteness of strike or verdigris. In all, just a small handful were as fine as this one.

Indeed, this is the best Massachusetts Cent we have handled in more than 5 years.
