Maris 60-p, W-5340 variety, PLURIBS type. Considered to be Rarity-4.
A distinctive Redbook type and clear-as-a-bell mint error missing the second U in PLURIBUS on the reverse.
And this is a pleasing specimen which has been off the market for almost exactly 20 years, having last been offered in a July 1997 Bowers sale where it was sold raw, graded EF and described as follows: "Chocolate brown. Well centered on a nice, problem-free planchet. Weakness at the center of the reverse shield, typical for the variety. All other design elements sharp. Scarce, especially at this grade."
To which we can only add that PCGS agrees with the Bowers cataloger, and we are pleased to re-introduce this lovely example to a new generation of NJ collectors.
Ex Bowers July 1997 Rarities sale, as noted, lot #1072 (lot ticket included).
