Maris 58-n, W-5320 variety, which along with the extremely common 56-n and the prohibitively rare 57-n comprise the three Camel Head types in the NJ series. And this is a tough issue considered to be Rarity-5-.
Indeed, this is the first example of this variety we have had in several years, and like many (most) is a product of broken dies and struck over a Connecticut Copper (in this case believed to be a Miller 33.27-r.4).
And while there is a lot going on here as is always the case with 58-n, with the undertype protruding through and bold obverse die cracks, this is a very nice example with choice golden brown color and hard, smooth surfaces and might sneak into the low end of a condition census which includes a several other coins graded XF.
Ex Stack’s-Bowers January 2013 sale of the Ted Craige Collection, Part II, lot #11387; earlier Kreisberg-Schulman’s March 1960 sale, lot #3806.
