Maris 48-g, W-5275, one of the best-made varieties in this series and thus always a popular choice for a type set. Considered to be Rarity-1.
And this is nice, well-centered, chocolate brown piece with sharp detail and excellent eye appeal.
In Stack’s January 2012 auction, the august Maris-Garrett specimen of this type was auctioned raw, described as AU50, and realized $7,475. And while this present specimen lacks that provenance, it is in fact a comparable coin offered here for about 1/4 of that price, which seems like a compelling proposition to us.
