Maris 56-n, W-5310 variety, Camel Head type. Considered to be Rarity-1.
A charming, original and quite high grade golden brown example pedigreed to Bowers’ March 1987 sale of the the august collection of Frederick B. Taylor, lot #2247, where it was described (in a rather verbose manner) as follows:
“Glossy brown surfaces. Spectacularly overstruck on a 1787 Connecticut copper; with abundant traces of the undertype still visible, including CONNEC on the obverse of the New Jersey Copper just above the date, 1787 on the reverse of the New Jersey copper at UNU. Sharply struck. A prize item for the specialist.”
