A very interesting item for the Fugio specialist.

This is one of the original Bank of New York hoard Fugio Cents encased in lucite and given as gifts to important bank clients.

On the base of the block is printed ‘THE BANK OF NEW YORK / FOUNDED 1784’ in block letters, with ‘THE BANK OF PHOENIX / OCTOBER 4, 1958’ (presumably a subsidiary) on the front and top.

The coin inside is a common Newman 13-X States United variety exhibiting uncirculated details and a a bit bright from old cleaning – as is the norm for these encased pieces.

Included also are the original (though tattered) brown cardboard box and the accompanying information pamphlet about Fugio Cents.

Many of these blocks have been cracked open through the years and the coins inside removed, recolored and sold as just another generic Fugio Cent. We prefer to offer this piece just as it is, an important piece of numismatic history – though entrepreneurs among us may note that the coin inside is likely worth more than our asking price for this cool item.
