Newman 2-C, W-6630 variety, FUCIO, Concave Rays type. Considered to be Rarity-6-.
A new addition to the census, this coin recently surfaced in a group of old coppers at a local New York show and then found its way to CRO.
And we are delighted to have it, as this is the most famous and sought after variety in this series, with a C instead of a G in FUGIO in the obverse legend and the distinctive rays with concave ends. It’s also a very tough issue to find nice, as most survivors show significant planchet rifts and flaws, and the finest known is a mere XF.
Making this totally original, untouched VF with medium brown fields, lighter devices, sharp detail and an unflawed planchet a very, very desirable example.
