Miller 1.2-C, W-2720 variety, Muttonhead Redbook type. Considered to be Rarity-3.
One of the most popular and interesting issues in the loooong Connecticut series for what we believe are 3 compelling reasons:
- The distinctive obverse head shape is quite unlike others in the series.
- The nickname ‘Muttonhead’, first introduced by Sylvester Crosby in 1875, is memorable and catchy.
- The topless depiction of Ms. Liberty on the reverse is downright numismatically scandalous.
Unfortunately, most examples of this type are a bit dark and dull and not especially pleasing. Making the present example, with nice surfaces and superb golden brown color, that much more desirable. Cool provenance, too.
