Ryder-10, W-2045 variety, Bust Left type. Considered to be Rarity-4.
A challenging type which tends to come well worn, badly flawed, sometimes damaged, often cleaned or some horrendous combination of the above.
And while this one is not perfect, it is waaaaaay nicer than most we’ve seen, with superb, original chocolate brown color, and decidedly choice, nearly unflawed surfaces for the issue. An unusual and unusually appealing set of characteristics that have unfortunately been completely lost on PCGS.
Indeed, the last time this piece appeared in an auction was in Stack’s June 2005 sale of the Drew St. John Collection as lot #1032, where it was sold raw, described as VF30 (which is about how we see it) and realized $1,380.
