This is one of the most popular and sought after of the major colonial types, and one of the most difficult to find choice. 

Indeed, most of these are poorly struck and indifferently made on flawed planchets, or cleaned, or environmentally damaged (or some unfortunate combination of the above).  And it is the plethora of such pieces in holders which has dragged down the auction records and price guides for this issue.

But choice examples like this wholesome, original and relatively well-made medium brown piece have always been in great demand, and have always been worth more money (with the next step above this one in quality a real doozy).
