First of a number of interesting New Jersey Coppers on this list, this is a tough variety we have only ever offered a couple of times through the years.

And while this piece exhibits some surface roughness and planchet fissuring, as made, they are offset by bold detail, very pleasing light chocolate brown color and sufficient overall appeal to make this a very desirable example of a variety that would be difficult and expensive to improve upon.

Ex Bowers March 2017 sale of the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection where it was sold raw and described as "EF-40"; earlier Bowers June 1984 sale of the Dr. Stanley Sherr Collection, lot 3137 (lot tag included).
