Ryder-3, W-2010, the rarer of the two die varieties (the other being Ryder-2) which comprise the VERMONTS type.
Considered to be Rarity-4, though that seems too low in our experience, as we probably see ten Ryder-2s for every Ryder 3 that comes up. Indeed, this variety was missing from a number of significant colonial collections, including Norweb, Picker and Roper to name a few.
And not many survivors are as pleasing as this original, golden brown XF. While not perfect, with some uneveness in the strike and a few old marks, that’s pretty much how it goes with this variety, including on the superb AU55 piece ex-Garrett which sold at Stack’s-Bowers in February of this year.
Making this quite a desirable example of a very tough issue.
