Miller 7.1-D, W-2440, considered to be Rarity-4+.
A very challenging type in the Connecticut series, the 1785 Mailed Bust Left is typically found well worn, flawed and most likely ugly.
And while this one is not perfect, with a few natural planchet flaws and struck from a sunken die, it exhibits very pleasing chocolate brown color, hard, smooth surfaces, as much detail as you’ll find on one of these and is STILL, after nearly 20 years of colonial coin grading at PCGS, tied for finest certified of the entire type at XF40.
Ex Stack’s May 2005 sale of the Ford Collection, Part IX, lot #237, where it was the described as "Extremely Fine. A Superior Specimen."
