1783 mg00692A 1783 mg00692Ar

W-10300 variety, an original striking of this issue (as opposed to the ubiquitous 1860’s era proof "restrikes" produced from copy dies).

Originals can be identified by (among other details) the fold in Washington’s toga pointing directly at the ‘7’ in the date, while on restrikes the drapery in this spot is parallel to the top of the ‘7’.

Originals like this are under-rated in the Washington series, and are difficult to find in the choice condition seen here.

Rich brown, with nice surfaces and considerable luster in evidence when you twirl this coin in the light.
