Baker-1, W-10130 variety, considered to be Rarity-1.
A popular issue with the intriguing UNITY STATES OF AMERICA reverse very similar to that which was used on U.S large cents from 1796 to 1807.
And this is the single finest example we’ve seen, or know about, with lustrous, original surfaces and none of the edge striations typically seen on this issue. Notably, it is also the only UNITY STATES we’ve seen with any original mint red remaining (and there is quite a bit of it, so much so that we think this coin could easily be called RB).
Regardless of the color designation, this is truly a superb piece which rightfully belongs in the finest cabinet of Washingtonia.
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
Ex Stack’s April 1996 sale of noted Washington specialist Jack Collin’s collection, lot #1.
