Breen-1089, Newman 1-C variety, the most aesthetic design in the series in our opinion, with an especially bold 1776 date.

Regular visitors to our site will note that this is just the second Continental Dollar of any variety or grade that we have offered in the last 12 months.

But not because we don’t like this issue – we do.  In fact we think this is one of the great coins not just in the colonial series, but in all of American numismatics.

The problem is  that we like very few of the examples we see in the marketplace.  Most exhibit some evidence of corrosion or heavy handling, or have been dipped or cleaned at some point in their long lives (including, unfortunately, a large number of the coins in high grade holders of both services).

But this one is a happy exception, all original, with lovely color, impressive flash in the devices and very nice surfaces for the issue.

Making this piece worthy of the CRO site, and an excellent choice for a high-end colonial type set.

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
