Betts-515 variety, Struck in Gilt Copper. 40.5mm.
The first of two Pitt Medals on this list, each with the extremely high relief obverse portrait of Pitt surrounded by the Latinate form of his name, and the popular quote THE MAN WHO HAVING SAVED THE PARENT (i.e. England) PLEADED WITH SUCCESS FOR HER CHILDREN (i.e. the colonies) on the reverse.
And this is just the third example we’ve ever seen of this rare Gilt Copper variant, with gleaming, glittering golden surfaces that leap (though not literally) right out of this extra thick PCGS slab.
