Nelson-15 variety, with the George I ‘Goiter’ obverse paired with the interesting reverse showing the Royal Sceptre overlaying a Trident (the symbol of Neptune, representing British domination of the seas). Considered to be solidly Rarity-7 with just 7 known of this type.
In this author’s view this is the most interesting, dramatic and desirable coin in the entire Hibernia series, and this is definitively the finest known example.
With superb surfaces, lovely golden brown color, a dash of teal green toning and mint red lingering in the devices.
In all, an utterly unbeatable combination of design, rarity, condition and provenance make this one of the finest coins CRO has ever offered.
Ex Bowers’ November 1988 sale of the Norweb Collection, Part III, lot #3492.
