Dav-1329 variety, Louis XV type. Struck at the Paris mint.
One of just a few, high end examples of this issue we’ve seen through the years, and, like the others, we snapped this one right up.
Because this is a silver dollar-sized coin of the same date and type as was recovered from the wreck of the Le Chameau, a French supply ship destined for North America which sank off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1725, taking with it a veritable time capsule of French gold and silver coins which circulated in early America.
And while the silver pieces salvaged from that wreck were in decrepit condition (and that’s being kind), this is a lovely blue and deep golden-toned mint state example which would fit nicely into a high-end collection of coins used in early America.
