KM-308.
The first one of these we’ve handled in a very long time.
Listed here in our Esoteric section, but a very good argument could be made to move this coin up into our colonial section.
Pistareens were struck in Spain from early in the 18th century until after 1770, but circulated extensively in the British West Indies, Canada and the American colonies.
These coins were valued at 2 Reales (or 1/4 of an 8 Reales), but based on their reduced silver content they passed at just 1/5 of an 8 Reales.
They circulated in the United States at a value of 20 cents until 1827(!) at which time they fell to 17 cents before eventually being demonetized.
Overall, this is a nice example with attractive and apparently original silver surfaces and some pretty toning near the rims.
