Newman 4-E variety.
This type exists as both a restrike and an original, and while it would be tempting to call this a circa 1828 restrike based on its superb condition, we don’t believe that is the case.
The surface quality and slightest hints of tin pest suggest a circa 1688 original to us – albeit a stunning example of one.
A beautiful piece with some mint frost remaining in the devices and a wonderful, original, old-world patina.
Just about as pretty as this type ever comes.
