Noe 3-D, W-190, Salmon 3-D variety, considered to be Rarity-7 with but 9 known. 69.6 grains.
An extremely rare and desirable issue which was missing from some of the finest collections of Massachusetts silver coins ever assembled, including those of Mssrs. Stearns, Garrett, Roper and Oechsner, Ms. Norweb as well as New Netherland’s 48th, 59th and 60th sales.
And while this one exhibits some of the uneven striking typical of this type and an old dig in the tree branches, it is stll far better than most, with just a few letters missing in the legends very pleasing round shape, and an absolutely superb ~370 year old patina with rich coin gray color, pretty old toning in the devices on the obverse and reverse and an august and looooong provenance.
Ex Donald Partrick Collection, earlier Stack’s October 2005 of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, lot #8; earlier F.C.C. Boyd; earlier T. James Clarke; Earlier Carl Wurtzbach; earlier Virgil Brand; earlier Carl Wurtzbach (again); earlier S.H. Chapman.
