Noe-8, Salmon 7-E, W-740 variety, considered to be Rarity-4.
Looooong off the market, this is the finest example of this variety we’ve owned (or seen, actually), full weight, struck on a broad, very round planchet, with razor sharp detail, intensely lustrous, original surfaces and lovely old toning in the devices as best seen in the PCGS TrueView images:
This coin can be traced back to Stack’s November 1974 sale of the Donald Groves Collection where it was described as follows: “A magnificent specimen and perfectly round . . . by far the nicest Noe-8 that we’ve seen or offered. Uncirculated.”
To which we can only add that this piece looks like a stone cold gem to your author, and I’ve seen a lot (a lot a lot) of Pine Trees.
Ex Stack’s November 1974 sale of the Donald Groves Collection, as noted, lot #289.
This coin is from the CRO archives and is not currently available for sale.
