KM 14.2 variety, a Netherlands’ issue which saw wide circulation in colonial era New York.
Crudely made and indifferently struck. On the other hand, this is an impressively lustrous 364 year-old coin with areas of great detail, and it is only the second Lion Dollar we’ve ever seen in a mint state holder. The other was an NGC 63 coin, far better struck than this one (and priced accordingly at many multiples of our asking price).
A bold silver-dollar sized coin bearing an interesting and very appealing design, a piece which unquestionably circulated here and thus a nice adjunct to a colonial or early American collection.
