Fr-153, Cal-196 variety, Charles & Joanna type. Struck at the Seville mint.
We like this type and always look for nice examples for the site, but frankly it’s tough sledding out there for two reasons:
- Most survivors are cleaned, sea salvaged and/or conserved with awful washed out color.
- Most of these are poorly and unevenly struck and are thus unsuitable for the CRO site.
Finding an example that passes muster in both categories is extreeeeemely unusual, making this fantastic, lustrous, original piece with superb golden orange color, a dash of pretty rose toning and a sharp, even and well centered strike something of a numismatic miracle.
