Concept:
We figured that the two angles worth pursuing here were the 1776 date, and the fact that Delaware was the first state in the Union. And after failing to come up with something extremely clever to highlight those facts, we went with something quite conventional and added the element of patriotism.

And that seemed to resonate, as we received multiple orders for this piece literally hours after the first copies of this edition were delivered.

Captions that didn’t make the cut:
Nothing specific, just a lot of half-baked ideas and 30 or 40 crumpled up wads of paper fired at the trash can near my desk.
