December 26, 2011: "Doily Double"

Concept:
Our guest author came up with this Daily Double / Doily Double switcheroo caption in order to highlight this cool 1908 Saint Gaudens No Motto Double Eagle (i.e. a “Double”) housed in an old PCGS slab with this distinctively patterned label (i.e. a “Doily”) used only in the fall of 1989 and now highly collectible in its own right.

Which of course necessitated showing this piece in the slab so that the distinctive Doily label would be visible to the reader (since without it the caption would make very little sense).

Caption that didn’t make the cut:
None. Sometimes you just know.
