Newman 2-C, W-6630 variety, Concave Rays, FUCIO type.  Considered to be Rarity-6.

This is a fantastic example of this famous rarity, arguably the finest of just more than 20 known.  It is in fact the finest of 8 examples graded by PCGS to date, which is significant given that many of the pieces generally considered by specialists to be high in the condition census for this issue have already been certified (something which cannot be said for many other colonial rarities).

And while this type is typically seen with planchet striations and flaws, as made, this example displays bold detail on choice, hard, smooth, golden brown surfaces with but a single thin flaw on the reverse.

In all, as nice an example as can be obtained and almost certainly destined for a high-end Fugio collection or advanced type set.

Ex Stack’s December 1983 of the Roper Collection, lot #412; earlier Stack’s February 1975 Essex Institute sale, lot #61.
